Financial Institutions
The South Kootenay is served by a variety of financial institutions; all deserving of the excellent reputation held by Canadian Banks and Credit Unions. Trail serves as the business, financial and administrative centre for the South Kootenay, and most major banks have branches in the region. In addition to financial institutions there are many other local resources for money management.
KSCU; -Homegrown Banking
In 1969 Kootenay Savings Credit Union (KSCU) began with the amalgamation of the Trail, Fruitvale and Castlegar Credit Unions. Today KSCU is a member-owned full-service financial institution with thirteen branches throughout the Kootenays, over $825 million in assets, 41,000 members and 260 employees. Kootenay Savings delivers wealth management strategies, including life insurance, through its wholly owned subsidiary, Kootenay Savings MoneyWorks. Auto and general insurance is provided through Kootenay Insurance Services, a partnership of Kootenay Savings, Nelson & District, and East Kootenay Community Savings Credit Unions. KSCU maintains the Corporate Head offices in downtown Trail, operates a community foundation, and supports many community endeavors in the Kootenays where we live, work and play.
