Fruitvale
Village of Fruitvale
Fruitvale is located 15.8 km east of Trail at 591m (1970’) in elevation with 1,952 residents. Fruitvale was originally a railway stop for the Great Northern Railroad named Beaver Siding for the large number of beavers in the area. Fruitvale and Montrose are both part of the Beaver Valley which is a gentle and narrow valley lined with evergreens and traversed by Beaver Creek, famous for its plentiful Brook and Rainbow trout. In 1906 a corporation called Fruitvale Limited purchased vast amounts of land and marketed the newly named Fruitvale as the best fruit growing area in the region. Today Fruitvale is mainly residential with a downtown core that delights visitors year round.
Lush Rural Lifestyle
Fruitvale is characterized by lush vegetation, hobby farms, horses, babbling creeks and warm country living. Downtown features all the amenities and services you would expect in a rural town, and a well stocked general country store carries all your gardening and farming supplies. Fruitvale is an ideal location for serious or hobby farming or just living the country life with open spaces & clean air without foregoing the convenience of city amenities.
Historically Fruitvale was aptly named as it boasts excellent fruit growing and is home to Columbia Gardens Winery. Many residents enjoy organic gardening and farming and greenhouses abound. The Farmers Market runs from May to October each year and features fresh produce, crafts and collectibles. Other well attended events include the Fruitvale Mountain Music Festival in August where you can hear awesome local talent play country, bluegrass and rock & roll music, and the Beaver Valley May Days celebration held on the May long weekend (May 24th).
Sports & Recreation
Sports thrives in Fruitvale and it is home to the Beaver Valley Nite Hawks hockey club, little league baseball, soccer, curling, skating, cross country ski and snowmobile clubs and a host of other organized sports. You can play 9 or 18 holes at Champion Lakes Golf & Country Club that features an 18 hole course with three ponds and gorgeous mountain views. Campers are in for a treat at the full featured 1,426 hectare Champion Lakes provincial park, or at the Beaver Valley Family Park which includes soccer & ball fields, horseshoe pitches, a fishing hole and camping for tents and RV's.
