Montrose
Village of Montrose
Montrose rises high above the Columbia River 10.4 km east of downtown Trail and was named after a popular community in Scotland. At an elevation of 600m (1,969’) the 1,012 residents of this mountain ledge community enjoy a unique vantage of the Columbia River Valley below. Montrose began in the 1950’s as a new retirement housing development on a large, flat acreage known as “Woods Flats”. In the early 50’s volunteers constructed a community hall and formed a fire brigade. In 1956 the community became incorporated as the Village of Montrose. Montrose and neighbouring Fruitvale are both part of the Beaver Valley which is a gentle and narrow valley lined with evergreens and traversed by Beaver Creek, famous for its plentiful Brook and Rainbow trout.
Family Oriented
Locally Montrose is best known for its unique views of the Columbia River Valley, but internationally it is known for its fresh clean drinking water. In fact the Village was the Silver Medal recipient of the Berkeley Springs International Water Tasting Competition in 2008 and 2009. Montrose is a newer housing area and is very family oriented with safe streets and good schools. The Village has the Montrose, Viewmont and Frontier parks, and is pretty, quiet, and wholesome whilst being very close to all amenities. Montrose has a gas station/corner store, post office and restaurant, and big box retail shopping is convenient as the Waneta Plaza shopping mall, Walmart, Canadian Tire, Home Hardware and many other retailers are just a short drive down highway 3B.
