The region has two major employers who are the economic anchors responsible for this regional stability when the economy weakens. Trail is home to both the Regional Hospital and the Teck Metallurgical Complex. These two sectors provide well over 2,000 jobs and many thousands more spin-off jobs from goods and service providers. The South Kootenay is a great place to live, work play and word is spreading throughout the communities of Australia and the US. Ski, golf and cycling is a major attractant for resort development and the demand for skilled workers and entrepreneurs presents many niche business and employment opportunities.
