More Welcoming

Welcome to Your New Life!

Where do you find people trusting and welcoming enough to invite you for "pot luck" dinner after having just met you in the park or at the ski hill? When you ask a shopkeep for directions, do they give you a blank stare, or do they invite you behind the counter and spread out a map they can show you. Where do new neighbors you have never met knock on your door bearing gift baskets to welcome you to the neighborhood and ask if you need anything?

The answer is simple. It can be anywhere that people are enjoying life. Happiness is contagious and is easiest to find in communities where residents feel civic pride and passion for betterment of their community. Communities of the South Kootenay breath enthusiasm and embrace newcomers as new friends. It is definitely contagious, and once you've been touched you want to spread it around!

Urban Dweller: "I always have a fear of the unknown. If only I could talk to someone who actually lives there I could make a better more informed decision. I've narrowed it down to the South Kootenay but what town, where is the most work, how far away are the great bike trails, do I need special qualifications, can I study there & how do I meet other mums?"

SKP: "It's such a safe, friendly and welcoming place that a local will help all they can. They think nothing of getting in your car to personally direct you to a hard-to-find address, mums will exchange phone numbers with you upon first meeting to invite you for coffee, realtors welcome you to the area with bountiful food hampers and cars stop in the main street to let you cross. Feeling like you belong when you first arrive in a new place is so important in the quest for happiness when you relocate. It's like I grew up here!"
