Rossland
City of Rossland
Rossland is a quaint heritage town of 3,278 located 8.7 km west of Trail and nestled at the base of the Red Mountain ski area. At an elevation of 1023m (3410') Rossland is one of Canada's highest cities earning it the title of Canada’s Alpine City. As an alpine city, Rossland has hilly streets, deep snowy winters and warm summers. These unique features have made Rossland the local recreation playground for the region.
Rossland Winters
Although Rossland and Trail are less than 10 kilometres apart, they each boast unique climatic zones. As moisture laden Pacific Ocean air from the West flows inland, it first passes over the Monashee Mountain range depositing moisture on its way east. As Rossland's elevation is 2000' higher than Trail it receives twice the snow. The average annual snowfall of 370 cm (12’) is often twice that on the ski hill making it a paradise for cross country, cat/heli and downhill deep powder ski enthusiasts.
Rossland Summers
Canada’s Alpine City is also commonly called the Mountain Bike Capital of Canada as it boasts 32 managed trails that cover 170 km including the incredible Seven Summits Trail. Shortly after the trail was complete it earned an “Epic Ride” status by the International Mountain Bicycling Association. The extensive network of hiking and cycling trails though out the surrounding hills attract a large number of visitors from outside the region. Rossland was featured in the fall 2004 issue of National Geographic Adventure Magazine titled "Where to Live and Play Now".
