Warfield

Village of Warfield

Warfield is a tight-knit community with a population of 1,729 where the volunteer spirit and sports participation is legendary. Warfield is situated 3.2 km west of downtown Trail at the bottom of the “Rossland hill” at 600 m (1969’) in elevation. Although Warfield is only 5 minutes "down the hill" from Rossland the drastic change in elevation results in a lighter winter snowfall, earlier spring and warmer climate. The village took its name from Carlo Warfield who was the personal secretary for F.A. Heinze, the original owner of the small smelter that is now called Teck Metals Ltd.

Jewel of the Kootenays

Warfield residents take pride in their well-kept community and you will find many tidy gardens, abundant fruit trees, well manicured lawns and a very neat and clean appearance. Warfield is officially known as the Jewel of the Kootenays, however locally it is affectionately known as the "Mickey Mouse town" because of the colourful and distinguished style of homes in Upper Warfield that were built in the late 1930’s. The streets in Upper Warfield take their names from famous historic British poets such as Shakespeare, Kipling, Dickens, Wordsworth, Tennyson, Shelley, and others.

Recreation & Amenities

Warfield backs onto the local golf course, cross country and bike trails such as the Railgrade Trail that connects the communities of Rossland and Warfield. This single track, easy-grade recreational trail drops 330 metres over its 7.1Km course. Warfield is also home to the newly refurbished outdoor Warfield Centennial Pool. Warfield has a small business section with necessities such as a bank, restaurant, coffee shop, gas station, community hall and various others.
